Edtech Summit 2019 - Jan-Marie Kellow and Stephen Ross - Resources
Micro:Bits presentation
Able to sense acceleration, compass orientation, light levels, temperature and voltage changes, Micro:bits are super versatile handheld programmable microcomputers that any STEAM learners will love. We’ll explore the features of Micro:bit, dip into the enormous online community and sample some of the multitude of education resources available. We’ll use the Micro:bit browser-based coding platform (spoiler alert, it’s a lot like Scratch) and see how the browser simulator helps preview and debug code - please bring your tablet or laptop for this. You’ll see how using Micro:bit in a range of contexts can support computational thinking and designing and developing digital outcomes from the digital technology curriculum.
A limited number of Micro:bits will be available to use on the day so you will need to bring your own Micro:bit and micro USB cable or pair up with a friend who has one. This session is suitable for upper primary and intermediate teachers.
If using an ipad download the free Micro:bit app prior to the session.
In addition to our presentation, more resources can be found on our Digital Technologies Curriculum site.

Scratch is a free block coding site which works on just about any device. There is also a junior version Scratch Jr available as ipad and Chromebook app. Come along for a demo of what it can do and take away some activities you can use or remix or have your students remix. Before the session, if you can, go to Scratch.mit.edu and sign up. More resources can be found on our Digital Technologies Curriculum Scratch page |
